CBRS Wi-Fi Access Points: Bringing a Private LTE Network to Wi-Fi Devices
A CBRS Wi-Fi access point connects to a private LTE network on the CBRS band and serves Wi-Fi and Ethernet locally. Laptops, tablets, cameras and other Wi-Fi devices join the private network through it with no SIM card of their own, which extends a CBRS network to every device already in the building.
The MultiTech MultiConnect CBRS Wi-Fi AP
MultiTech describes the MultiConnect CBRS Wi-Fi AP (MTCAPW-L12G2) as a Wi-Fi access point for CBRS cellular networks, with Wi-Fi and Ethernet on the local side. MultiTech built it for school districts, campuses, smart city projects, hospitality and their managed service partners, and the model received TMC Communications Solutions Product of the Year awards in 2021 and 2022.
Where it fits
- Homes and multi-dwelling buildings served by a school district or city CBRS network, where each household gets Wi-Fi from one unit.
- Portable buildings, construction trailers and temporary sites that sit inside CBRS coverage and have no cable run.
- Parking structures, yards and outbuildings where Wi-Fi cameras, kiosks and handhelds need a connection.
- Backup connectivity for a site whose wired internet goes down.
Before deploying
The access point is a client of a CBRS network, so it needs an LTE network on the band, a SIM provisioned on that network, and a cell such as the Sercomm SCE4255W or Baicells Nova 430 within range. Confirm the band support and settings against the MultiTech datasheet for the target network.
